Flood kills nine in Black Sea province

Heavy rain and flooding killed nine people
in the Black Sea province
of Samsun, daily Hürriyet
reported today.
Six children were among those killed by
the
flood, according to initial reports.
The ground floor of several apartments,
offices and a hospital were flooded after Mert
River in Samsun's
Canik neighborhood spilled over its banks due to heavy rain.
Some bridges on the river were closed due
to the risk they might collapse while the road between Samsun
and Ordu provinces was closed to traffic.
Search and rescue operations have
reportedly been started and officials have made announcements to warn occupants
living near the river.
