Heavy snowfall and blizzard took effect in the northwestern
Bolu province today, causing trucks to skid and block transportation on the
highway between
Turkey's capital and its largest city.
Trucks exiting the Bolu Mountain Tunnel toward
Istanbul skidded on the
snow-covered TEM highway and closed the road at around 12:30 p.m.
Traffic could resume on a single lane on the normally three-lane highway after a two-hour de-icing effort by the road crews, reports said.
Blizzard also slowed down traffic on the older D-100 freeway between
Ankara and Istanbul.
