Three teenage suspects detained on charges of allegedly torturing two
children on the first day of the Ramadan Bayram holiday in the eastern province
of Bingöl have been released pending trial by a Bingöl court, Doğan news agency
has reported.
While collecting sugar at a local cemetery for the bayram holiday
7-year-old B.Y. and his 10-year-old cousin A.Y. were reportedly beaten with
sticks and belts and burned with lit cigarettes by three children between the
ages of 12 and 14.
The three alleged torturers, who were reportedly cousins, were captured
by police and taken into custody. They have since been released by the court
pending trial after the first hearing on the grounds that they are under the
age of 18.
The three suspects will be sent to a forensic lab for age assessment
tomorrow, the reports said.
