Test drive accident hits Kartal-Kadıköy subway line

An
accident occured during a test drive on the new Kartal-Kadıköy subway
line, which will be the first underground rail line on the Asian side
of Istanbul, daily Hürriyet reported today.
A
subway train reportedly moved off from Kartal leaving one wagon
behind at the station. The train then crashed into to
the wagon when it returned back to Kartal, causing minor damage.
The
subway line is expected to be opened for Istanbul residents during the Şeker
Bayram holiday at the end of the month of Ramadan, in August.
Turkish
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan kicked off the construction of the tunnel
in 2005.
