Turkish PM to visit bomb-hit Reyhanlı on May 30

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is to visit on Thursday May 30 the southern Hatay province’s Reyhanlı district where 51 people were killed and more than a hundred injured in a twin-bombing attack on May 11, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Speaker Hüseyin Çelik announced today via Twitter. “Our prime minister will make a condolences visit to the families of our citizens who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Reyhanlı,” Çelik wrote.

Turkish President Abdullah Gül visited the town less than a week after the bombings on May 16. Erdoğan had made public that he also intended to go to Reyhanlı after his visit to the United States. 

Turkish officials had said that the perpetrators of the attack were linked to Syria’s intelligence agency Al Mukhabarat. Some 18 people have been detained in the Reyhanlı investigation so far, among which 12 were arrested, while six were released pending trials.
