Two security guards were killed and three were wounded in an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeastern province of Hakkari on May 24, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported, citing the local governor’s office.
According to a statement issued by the Hakkari Governor’s Office, an improvised explosive device planted by PKK militants detonated when a vehicle carrying security guards to a base area in the Semdinli district was passing.
The three injured in the attack were taken for treatment at a state hospital, the agency reported.
An operation launched against the PKK is underway following the attack, the report stated.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
