Top security board vows to dismantle wall of terror

Türkiye’s top security board has reiterated the country's strong will to dismantle the "wall of terror in front of Türkiye’s future" amid efforts to pursue the "terror-free Türkiye" project during a regular bimonthly meeting.

The National Security Council (MGK) was convened on Sept. 30 under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and with the participation of senior civilian and military officials.

A readout distributed after the meeting said the council assessed the continued anti-terrorism struggle carried out by security forces.

“The stage reached on the path towards a ‘terror-free Türkiye,’ with the contribution of the activities carried out under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, was assessed; the strong will to completely dismantle the wall of terror standing before our nation’s future and to ensure the perpetuity of an environment of peace, prosperity and security was reaffirmed,” it said.

The members of the council also elaborated on the efforts to create a terror-free region and stressed that “no manifestation of terrorism would be allowed in our neighboring geography, and no expansionism on the grounds of terrorism would be permitted under any circumstances.”

The MGK reviewed the developments in Syria after the Assad regime was ousted in December 2024.

“Actors and issues posing threats to Syria’s territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty, as well as to Iraq’s security, stability and prosperity, were evaluated; it was emphasized that our support for the struggle against attempts to drag our neighbors into regional conflicts would continue to increase,” the communiqué said.

The security board also raised the recent developments in Gaza amid continued genocidal acts by Israel on Palestinian civilians.

“Attention was drawn to the illegitimate policies of the Israeli Administration in Gaza that cause humanitarian catastrophe and deaths from starvation; it was stated that stopping genocide and holding those responsible accountable has become a joint responsibility of all humanity," it read.

"It was also expressed that Türkiye will continue to contribute to every positive step taken towards the establishment of a just and lasting peace."
